9. Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion - Sam Harris
This is a slightly different book from the ones presented in this list, however, it presents things in such an interesting way, that I couldn’t leave it out.
Waking Up is a book that blends spirituality and science, speaking about the common teachings of all major religions in the world and their prophets, as well as the findings of scientific experiments that support certain spiritual beliefs. The author doesn’t want to present a dogmatic belief to accept, but to offer the facts that allow the reader to make up their own mind and embrace their spirituality without having to accept an accompanying set of rules.
10. The Alchemist; A Fable About Following Your Dream. - Paulo Coelho.
The Alchemist is not exactly a spiritual book, but it is a classic among spiritual people. This beautiful tale is so inspirational that even though it is fiction based, it inspires and awakens a certain something in the reader that pushes them to make changes and embrace their spiritual side, encouraging trust in the process and self-confidence, positivity and optimism, and the belief that everything is possible, and that, as Paulo Coelho says, “when you decide that you want something, the universe conspires to make it happen.”
In my own experience, The Power of Now is a personal favourite of mine! I find it a very easy book that introduces some spiritual concepts in a fairly affordable way and helps the reader have a more meaningful relationship with their present. While there are a few books that are a great addition to any library, such as The Four Agreements, The Power of Now is my clear winner for a very simple reason: Mastering your present is the main key towards mastering your future and creating the life that you want to live.
My advice in this regard is to let your intuition determine what is the best book that you can read in matters of spirituality. Chances are that you will be naturally drawn to what you need the most at any given point in your life. Welcome the opportunity to learn new spiritual teachings and techniques with an open mind and avoiding dogmatic thought!
After having recommended The Power Of Now as my favourite book in the section, my top three are as follows:
The Four Agreements is one of the top spiritual awakening books that you can read for the easy to understand and follow principles that it presents and the major impact that they can have in your life. After that, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success takes it a step further, and its teachings are useful on a daily basis! Last but not least, F**k It has made a difference in the life of every person that I know has read it, even those who have the spiritual life of a building block!
Spiritual beliefs are the different ideas and philosophies that people around the world has about the greater meaning of our human experience. Those beliefs can be strongly held and experienced, but are hard to prove tangibly in the physical world, reason why they remain a private part of our lives and tend to belong to the home area or to be shared in small communities.
There are quite a few very prolific authors in the spiritual scene! Deepak Chopra has dozens of books under his belt delving in different topics surrounding spirituality and the laws that seem to rule over the spiritual world. Don Miguel Ruiz, author of The Four Agreements, The Fifth Agreement and Mastering Love among others is also one of the best known personalities of the field. Louise Hay, author of You Can Heal Your Life and founder of Hay House is an eminence in the spiritual self-help book scene!
Probably The Four Agreements is one of the easiest books to understand for a beginner and offers a solid foundation to spirituality and spiritual work. Other option is The Power Of Now, a book that I like very much for its way of bringing power back to the reader and teach mastery over the present moment. A beginner with no experience whatsoever on spirituality and who feels intimidated by it could definitely benefit from “F**k It”, a book without any pretensions that explains very widely known spiritual concepts to the reader in the simplest way possible and without any sort of frill or unnecessary adornment. The accessibility offered by this book knows no competition, and it is a personal favorite because every person can benefit from reading it one way or another.
